| Chinese officials visit site of 2012 Olympic Park |

LONDON: Officials from the London 2012 Olympic organising team have shown early work on the Olympic Park to counterparts from China, which will host the next summer Games in 2008.
The Chinese officials were part of the delegation accompanying President Hu Jintao on a state visit to Britain this week, and saw, among other things, construction work on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link that will open in 2007. “There are a number of similarities between London and Beijing’s plans for the Olympic Games, particularly our joint belief in the Olympic Park Model where key venues and the Olympic village are co-located on the same site,” said Mike Power, chief operating officer for the London Organising Committee (LOCOG).
“London and Beijing will both leave strong environmental, urban and sporting legacies for their cities and for the Olympic Movement,” Power said. British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who will meet Jintao later this week, said: “In 2008 Beijing will hand the baton to London for the Olympic Games. Trade and investment relations between China and Britain are expected to increase as the two cities prepare to host consecutive Games. LOCOG deputy chairman Keith Mills will visit Beijing next week to present London’s plans for the Paralympic Games to the International Paralympic Committee’s General Assembly.
